The Wilson County Black History Committee presents its 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19 at Cumberland University’s Baird Chapel. Juneteenth commemorates the day that news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas – June 19, 1865 and nearly two years after signature by President Lincoln. The Wilson County Black History Committee joins many other organizations around the county in commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Cumberland University will host this year’s celebration event with a dinner and program beginning at 6pm in Baird Chapel. A keynote address will be provided by Mayor AC Wharton, a native son of Lebanon and Mayor of Memphis from 2009 – 2015.
